The decline in your account from a peak to a subsequent low, expressed as a percentage.
It measures how much you have lost since your best moment. A 20% drawdown means your balance is 20% below its peak.
Recovery is asymmetric: after losing 50% you need to gain 100% to get back to where you started. That is why controlling risk per trade and limiting drawdown matters more than chasing big returns.
